“It’s that time again grrrls! I am looking for submissions for the third issue of “I Knew a Motherfucker Like You and She Said…” It’s a compilation zine of writing by grrrls, edited by me (Clementine Cannibal). The theme of the zine is uncensored honesty on topics that we feel we are expected to be silent about. I want the real shit. There are so many things that grrrls are not allowed to say or ask or express. We aren’t allowed to talk about our bodies, histories, sexualities, even our opinions without scorn, violence or humiliation. Grrrls get told to shut up. We get told that we’re stupid, that we aren’t good enough. We are told that we are gross and ugly and should feel ashamed. This is a zine where we refute that, where we express what it’s like to live with that shit put on us, where we make room for each other and listen to each other. It’s not about judging each other, it’s not about being perfect, it’s not about being right, it’s not about silencing each other. It’s about listening to each other, and finding the courage to speak, to say the things you really need to say. We are listening. You can be as bitchy and fucked up as you want. You don’t have to spell shit right. You can rant and rave or write a story. You can bitch about bad lovers. You can tell your deepest secrets. You can tell the truth, how you feel, who you are. You can use a fake name if you want, or pimp your shit off in the zine. You can say shit in this zine that you might feel uncomfortable or scared saying in other places, because we got your back, and we are putting ourselves out there too. This is a girlVIRUS production and it is dedicated to the empowerment of all grrrls.”—
the vampire sushi HQ computer decided to die. or more like, windows the operating system did. not sure when it’s going to be back online. carl went to the post office today and i think posted all the orders, except one. i think. he’s got the receipts so i can’t check :(
oh well, when we’re back there will be more zines added (back) to the catalogue! just so you know.
how do you decide what you distribute? do you prefer to seek out zines yourself or that a zinewriter comes to you offering their work? do you distribute perzines other than your own (i haven't perused into too much detail of your catalogue, apologies.)?
i'm just about done printing off and sending personal orders and requests for the first issue of quickthoughts, my perzine and the only places i've thought of selling it outside of myself personally are the 2 zine stores i know in australia. i could do a small batch for vampire sushi but only if yr interested...
well, as simple as it seems i just read A LOT of zines and if i really like them / i think other people should read them / they really have something to say we’ll distro them. i usually seek out the zines myself, we don’t get that many submissions but i don’t really prefer it either way.. i think most of the vampire sushi catalogue is perzines. there’s a couple of craft, food & art zines but mostly it’s perzines.
we always like to see & read a zine first before we decide whether to distro it or not, so if you send us a copy for consideration at: vampire sushi / 67 eldon street / chatham kent / me4 4nb / uk we’ll have a looksie! (same applies to anyone else really)
i had an idea at work today that me and carl should make a little horror themed art zine for halloween etc & to celebrate vampire sushi’s 1ST BIRTHDAY. and then i thought “why keep the fun all to ourselves, WE SHOULD MAKE IT A COMPILATION ZINE!”
so yes, we are looking for submissions! drawings, photographs, collages, embroidery, anything! also considering horror stories and reviews of horror films! the zine will be quarter size / a6 but your piece doesn’t have to be necessarily, we’re perfectly able to resize things on the photocopier.
the main theme is vampires (of course) but other monsters & horror creatures / themes are welcome too. anything related to twilight is not welcome, unless its taking the piss out of sparkly ‘vampires’.
we’d especially love zinesters we distro to take part in this compilation.
DEADLINE IS SEPTEMBER 26TH 2010.
for more info just ask or email us at vampiresushidistro at gmail.com
for some reason, keeping an order tracking tumblr for vampire sushi distro seems more feasible than twitter or lj. since i’m fucking always on tumblr anyway. + i don’t have to log out or anything! go tumblr. i expect more than just order tracking might end up here though.. like zine / feminism related reblogs. & distro news of course.
hi! we’re currently re-ordering lots of stock. lots of emails to send to zinesters. and there’s a bunch of new zines in that i need to scan and put on the website. and a bunch of more is on their way! excitement. working on being more organized / on the ball with distro stuff. (sending carl to the post office tomorrow, me thinks)
