July is fast approaching and I have created a list of zine activities for International Zine month this year so get stoked! I’m going to make some posters today and send them out with Portland Button Works order or free for a stamp. I’ll post more when I have them printed. Until then, let me know if I am missing something, that goes for everything on Stolen Sharpie Revolution site, let me know what is missing so I can add it! Events can be added to the official International Zine Month page even after the poster is printed!

31 Activities for 31 Days of International Zine Month! July 2013

I LOVE ZINES WEEK!

1 - Sign up or sign in to WeMakeZines.ning.com and write about IZM and what you plans are to celebrate zines this month! Feel free to write about it on your personal site as well!

2 - Make a Top 10 list of reasons why your love zines, post them online if you would like.

3 - Zine Distro Appreciation Day! Order from a zine distro.

4 - Reread your favorite zines and remind yourself why you love them so much.

5 - Teach yourself a new zine skill: learn how to book bind, make a 1 page zine, photocopier art, etc.

6 - Check out ZineWiki.org and add your zine or update existing entries.

ZINE EVENT 6 JULY - Kuala Lampur Zine Fest (Kuala Lampur, Malaysia)

POSTAL APPRECIATION WEEK!

7 - Make or decorate some envelopes or postcards to get ready for the week.

8- Make a little flyer for your zine to send out with orders and see if other people will trade for stacks of them so you can all promote each other.

9 - Write a letter to a zine maker that you don’t know.

10 - Send a care package to a zine creator that you do know.

11 - Make some mail art!

12 - Send your zine out to be reviewed.

Femme Dreamboat is a zine edited by three Jersey femmes to centralize femme experiences in LGBT/queer culture. We strive to create spaces for femmes to create accurate representations of our lives, looks, relationships, and bodies.

We at Femme Dreamboat are dedicated to radical inclusivity and want the project to speak openly and accountability on issues of race, gender, class, disability, transmisogyny, documentation status, ageism, cissexism, fatphobia, and all systems of power, privilege, and oppression. We encourage femmes who are willing and able to engage with this framing to submit work.

The theme of our third issue is Femmes Call-Out! Call-Outs in all directions. Are you a femme who wants to call out femmephobia in your community? Submit! A femme who thinks racism is super present in femme organizing? Submit! A disabled/sick femme who thinks that current emphasis in femme aesthetic is limiting and ableist? Well us too! Submit! Let’s engage with the communities we live and love in and make them listen. Let’s listen to the inconvenient truths we have for one another. Let’s tell each other about themselves and make this community stronger!

We are currently seeking submissions from femme identified folks of up to 1000 words. Submissions can use the following formats/topics:

-poetry

-fiction

-personal narratives

-photos and artwork

-quotes

Submissions wanted for Sonorus: feminist perspectives on Harry Potter zine! (A zine, derived from ‘magazine’, is a self-published booklet.) Sonorus is a new zine, created by three UK-based Harry Potter fans and feminists.

The aim of this zine is to see what feminists think of the Harry Potter series (including the books, the films, the cultural phenomenon and the fandom), for Harry Potter fans to look at the series in another way, and to put the spotlight on the numerous female characters in the world J.K. Rowling has created. It’s completely just for fun and interest and not for profit!

We’re looking for articles of anything between 200 and 1000 words on any aspect of the Harry Potter series in relation to feminism.

You could write about:

Female role models in the series

Feminism/ social justice in the Wizarding World

Your favourite character – can they be seen as a ‘feminist’ character?

Gender roles in the series

The differences between the books and the films and their impact on gender

Race in the series

Fan fiction – the interpretation of characters by fans and how gender is affected by this

Gender and careers in the series

LGBT issues in the series/the fandom

Women in sport in the series

Femininity/masculinity in the series

Gender in relation to good vs. evil

Motherhood in the series

Relationships in the series and in fan fiction

J.K. Rowling as a female writer

As well as submitting articles, you are also welcome to submit the following:

Fan art

Fan fiction (on a related theme)

Submissions are welcomed from people of all genders. You don’t have to be a feminist, know a lot about feminism or even be a Harry Potter fan to get involved, you just need to have something to say about gender in the series!

The intention is to include all other submissions in one issue, but if there are a lot of submissions and similar amounts of enthusiasm then we’ll make more issues so everyone can have their work featured in the zine. (Please note that anything seen by the editors to be sexist, racist, homophobic, disablist or discriminatory in any other way will not be included in the zine.)

- “The host of this website recently switched servers against the will of zinelibrary to a Virtual Private Server that costs 600% more than the previous hosting. This is way out of the price range for the people who currently pay to have the site online.

This site has always been free and we have never asked for money. The site is under threat and needs a new server as soon as possible. We can kick down a hundred bucks a year for costs toward the new host.

We were recently rejected from the Museum of Contemporary Art’s 2013 zine fair. Sign this petition and help us get a table! Up to 5000 people are expected to attend and this could be an amazing opportunity for us.

hey everyone should totally sign this! getting one table at a zine fair in sydney might seem like a small thing, not worth your time. but that’s exactly why you should sign. unlike “petition to stop global warming”, this petition is about a local event with decisions made by one or two people. a change.org petition might actually have a snowball’s chance in hell of getting the desired outcome here.

The best and most interesting thing about zine culture is that it provides a platform for people who don’t have access to mainstream media or publishers. trans women have very few opportunities to get their voices heard — they have to make their own. Bitch Please distro is an amazing intervention into the media landscape in Australia, and with your support they could do a lot more.

I am seeking submissions of art and writing on the subject of long distance relationships, describing the funny, sad, and tender moments of having a partners or partners far away. This is not an “advice” zine, though pieces that incorporate advice will be considered. Submissions do not need to be about a current relationship or a currently long-distance relationship. I am particularly interested in questions of chosen or forced distance, queer(ed) relationships, Internet dating, membership in a globalized/ precariat labor force, ways of making contact across distance, the idea of “building a life,” struggles with immigration or across national borders, co-parenting across distance, and the different ways in which we create and sustain families and define “home.”

Please indicate the distance (for example, 500 miles) between you and your significant other(s) in the title or subtitle of your submission.

Due April 1st

500-1,000 words preferred, please submit as a word document or in the body of an email.

Images must be black and white, 300+ dpi

Here’s my tentative zine cover for “Heart of Whiteness,” a zine/dialogue on desire and colonization.

I only have two other folks writing pieces for this zine we’ve talked about. Any of my POC followers want to write a page/poem/whatever for this? I’d need it by February 10th! Please message me if you’re interested!
